Student Life at GU/MSB-Brooklyn Center

Students at the Brooklyn Center, MN, campus of Globe University/Minnesota School of Business (GU/MSB) participate in a wide range of activities. These clubs and groups allow students to develop networking skills, work with faculty advisors and other students in an informal setting, and have fun.

Campus life reflects the interests of our students

Brooklyn Center student commonsStudents at GU/MSB-Brooklyn Center are able to develop program-related clubs and affinity groups themselves, with our Student Services Department providing support as needed. If a student sees potential for an activity, he or she can take the lead to establish a group. At any time, students will find a variety of organizations at our Brooklyn Center campus that reflect the interests and leadership of the students currently enrolled.

Student activities

Some of our most popular groups include:

  • Student Ambassadors. This group plays a leadership role in events that involve the whole campus. Members of Student Ambassadors represent GU/MSB-Brooklyn Center in the community and beyond.
  • DEX. This international student marketing, accounting and management organization offers students in business degree programs opportunities to compete against other colleges, travel to conferences, develop networking skills and work with others to accomplish on-campus projects. Minnesota Delta Epsilon Chi or DEX is the college version of DECCA, a similar organization for high school students.
  • Massage Club. This group, made up of students in our massage therapy degree and diploma programs, sponsors fundraisers. One such event was held to support an area family coping with cancer.  Students sold food and provided massages.
  • Legal Club. This organization is made up of students in our paralegal programs. The group participated in a Law Day mock trial in which a jury came back with a not-guilty verdict in a first-degree murder case.
  • Medical Club. This organization for medical assistants undertakes community service projects such as raising money for Ronald McDonald House.

Campus program coordinators for each field advise these clubs in addition to teaching classes in the subject. Students are able to interact with instructors and students who share their interests and goals.

Active in our community

These organizations often support community improvement projects. For example, the Paralegal Club hosted Shoes for Students for school age children and DEX worked with Habitat for Humanity. Our student groups have participated in Toys for Tots, collected school supplies for needy children and donated Halloween gift bags to a local shelter. Students choose the projects they wish to undertake and organize the activities to accomplish their goals. Our proximity to downtown Minneapolis allows our students to be involved in charitable and community events there as well.

Student Services department

Our Student Services Department promotes informal occasions, including treats during finals and midterms week, faculty and student appreciation events and even a contest to select a campus mascot—a bulldog.  This department also coordinates student tutors and offers math and writing labs. They support the activities of the student organizations, helping with promotion, food and supplies so that events are successful.
