Scott K. Grams

BusinessFacultyI am senior buyer for Nilfisk-Advance, a worlwide leader in industrial floor care products. I previously worked for 31 years for Cummins Incorporated, a worldwide leader in manufacturing engines, where my titles included production manaager, materials manager and supply manager.

Upon graduating from Pine City Technical College in 1978, I started my career as a machinist. After five years, I was promoted into management as a production supervisor. I did this for 15 years. As job requirements changed, a condition to stay in management was to have a four year degree. I started in 1993 and completed my A.A.S from Minnesota School of Business in 1996 and my B.S. from Metro State University in 2002. Ten years ago, I was able to move into supply management as a supply manager. My responsibility for total spending is over $85 million.

Upon graduation from college, I took the opportunity to get into teaching. This was a dream come true since I wanted to teach when I was in high school. I find teaching very rewarding. I teach Business classes in the evenings. Five years later, I still enjoy teaching. I hope someday to retire early from my primary career and become a full-time instructor. I strive to take material out of the textbook and give real life examples on what goes on in the business world. When the students learn and retain something that they have told me, they learned in my class, that is the most rewarding feeling in the world.

I’m also employed in three other seasonal jobs. Since 1980, I have been a writer for Viking Update, a monthly magazine that covers the Vikings. I have worked for the Minnesota Vikings since 1984 as a statistician at every home game. I’m also a registered Minnesota State High School League Official for football and basketball since 2000. Needless to say, I like to stay busy.
