Online accounting classes
We know that our students are busy people. Many are juggling jobs, family responsibilities and lengthy commutes. Finding time to attend school may be difficult. That’s why we offer our accounting programs online, allowing students to take classes whenever they want and wherever they are. We also give students the option of completing some classes online and others at our Brooklyn Center campus or one of our other locations. We try to be as flexible as possible so that students can complete their programs.
Accounting programs at our Brooklyn Center campus
Bachelor’s degree (BS). Graduates are qualified to take the Minnesota Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam. We offer coursework in management accounting, financial accounting, auditing and taxation as well as advanced business classes. Students learn the skills they will need to be part of an accounting team. They take 182 credits, including 55 credits of general education and core requirements that cover topics such as:
They also choose among courses that focus on topics such as payroll accounting, accounting systems, ACAT review and advanced audit. They also take a capstone course, the accounting externship. Upon graduation, they are eligible to take the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) exam and the Minnesota Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam. They may be able to receive a Professional Certification Scholarship that reimburses some of the costs of taking these exams.
We offer two associate degree programs:
Associate Degree in Management Accounting (AAS). This degree prepares students for positions such as accounts payable or accounts receivable clerk, payroll specialist, accounting technician and billing specialist.
Accounting & Tax Specialist Associates Degree (AAS). This two-year degree program will prepare you for a position as a tax advisor, tax preparer or for work in the accounting departments of small and large companies.
Accounting Diploma. Our diploma program prepares students for jobs such as accounts payable/accounts receivable specialists. After entering the workforce, some students return to earn associates or bachelors degrees in accounting, with their diploma credits transferring to their new degree programs. An accounting diploma requires students to take 56 credits in courses that cover the following topics:
It is possible to complete this diploma in as little as 12 months of full-time study. It is a good choice for students who wish to enter the workforce as soon as possible.
